The original building opened in 1887 as a meeting and performing arts venue. In the 1930s, Granada Theatres purchased and refurbished the building to be a super cinema which had 2,697 seats. The cinema was later split into 3 screens. It changed hands a number of times up until 2003, when it closed for business. Great example of a Grade II* listed building, with flamboyant interior decorations. The property is now earmarked for refurbishment for Waltham Forest and English Heritage to bring it back to its former glory.
